Hardware Overview
i686+ ComputerJust about any i686+ computer will work fine to some extent; it doesn't need to be new or even extremely fast. Linux OS will run on very minimal hardware as long as the hardware can support at least the 2.6 kernel. |
Ethernet RouterA wired, or wireless, 100mbps or better ethernet router will be required, unless either, 1) you also installed router software on your box, or 2), your LAMP box will the only box connecting to your broadband connection, or 3), you were already supplied with a combo modem/router from your provider. LinkSys, DLink, and Buffalo are well-supported brands if you find that you need to purchase a router. |
Broadband ConnectionAbout any residential DSL or cable broadband pipe will work to some extent. The obvious bottleneck here would be upstream bandwidth limits. Ideally, you'd want a static IP address but that's not always an available option and you'd have no choice but to use your dynamic IP, in that case. |
